Emergency Remote Instruction Plan
In recent years, we have all witnessed how unpredictable weather and unexpected facility or safety conditions can quickly require school closures. While closing school is sometimes the safest and most responsible decision, it also interrupts instructional continuity for students. Our goal as a district is to ensure that learning continues whenever possible, even during unforeseen circumstances.
For this reason, the district has developed an Emergency Remote Instruction Plan, which has been shared with our staff and will be implemented when necessary. This plan aligns with requirements established by the New York State Education Department and is designed to ensure that instruction remains meaningful, accessible, and developmentally appropriate for all students.
If emergency conditions require us to pivot to remote instruction, families should be aware of several key points:
- Purpose
- Conditions for Remote Instruction
- Device and Connectivity Access: NYSED Requirement #1 & #2
- Instructional Expectations: NYSED Requirement #3: Synchronous/Asynchronous Balance
- Students Without Access to Digital Technology: NYSED Requirement #4
- Special Education & Related Services: Requirement #5
- Staff Expectations
- Instructional Hours for State Aid: NYSED Requirement #6
- Equity & Access Considerations
- Communication
- Review & Revision

The development of this plan reflects careful preparation by our teachers and administrators. Staff members have been briefed and are prepared to transition to remote instruction should conditions require it.
Most importantly, this plan is intended to protect instructional continuity while maintaining flexibility for families during emergency situations. At the conclusion of any remote instruction period, Superintendent Hamilton will review the level of student participation and engagement. Based on the number of students actively involved in remote instruction, he will determine whether the day(s) may be counted toward the State's required 180 instructional days.
